Black beans are nutrition powerhouses
As I’ve said before, black beans are my favorite bean. And that’s a good thing, because they are full of nutrients!
- They are a great source of low calorie, low fat protein
- Beans are one of the best foods to add to your diet to reduce your cholesterol level
- One cup of beans provides 60% of your daily fiber requirement. Consuming sufficient fiber is important for reducing your risk of heart disease, and for digestive health.
- Black beans are a good source of iron
- The high potassium level in black beans helps to reduce blood pressure
- They are filled with phytochemicals that potentially help prevent cancer
What’s in this vegan black bean dip?
Five simple ingredients that you likely have in your refrigerator and pantry are all you need to make this delicious dip!
- Black beans – you can use canned black beans or cook your own from dry. If you use canned beans, be sure to drain and rinse them.
- Salsa – use your favorite salsa here. Use a mild salsa for a mild dip, or a hot salsa for a spicier dip.
- Chili powder – chili powders vary in amount of spiciness. You can adjust the amount of chili powder in this recipe to your taste preference. A dash of chipotle chili powder would be great too!
- Cumin
- Lime Juice – fresh squeezed is best, but bottled lime juice is also fine.
How to make this dip
This vegan black bean dip couldn’t be easier! Just rinse and drain a can of beans and place them in a bowl or food processor.
Add the salsa, spices, and lime juice and blend until smooth in the food processor or with an immersion blender.
If you want a warm dip, you can heat this dip in the microwave or in an oven safe dish in the oven. For some extra flavor, melt a bit of shredded vegan pepper jack cheese on top of it.
Then serve it with some baked tortilla chips or some fresh veggies like carrots or bell peppers. Yum!
