Growing up, the only salad dressing I ate was ranch. Isn’t it just about every kid’s favorite salad dressing? They absolutely love to dip stuff in it!

My tastes have greatly expanded since those days, and I love many kinds of dressings. But my love for ranch hasn’t gone away, and this recipe definitely satisfies my taste for it!

There are a few store bought vegan ranch dressings out there, but I haven’t found one that I really like. They’re also quite expensive, and full of added oils.

Most homemade ranch dressing recipes are made with a base of mayonnaise, buttermilk, and sometimes sour cream. These ingredients make the dressing quite high in fat, which defeats the purpose of eating a healthy salad.

But this plant based ranch dressing contains none of those high fat ingredients! It’s oil free and dairy free, and tastes just like regular ranch!

So go ahead and pour it on your salad! Dip everything in it! You’re going to love it!

What’s in this vegan ranch dressing?

Labeled ingredients for vegan ranch dressing.
  • My Tofu Cashew Mayonnaise. This vegan mayo is made from tofu and raw cashews, and has less than 17 calories per tablespoon (as opposed to 90 or more in traditional mayonnaise), making this dressing much lower in fat.
  • Soy milk and apple cider vinegar mimic the buttermilk that is in traditional recipes.
  • A bit of lemon juice adds just a little more tang.
  • A fresh garlic clove, because I like my dressing to be a bit garlicky
  • A bit of lemon juice adds just a little more tang.
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Dried parsley
  • Dried dill
  • Dried chives

How to make this dressing:

  1. Place all the ingredients except the chives in the blender and blend them until they are well combined.
  2. Add the chives and just pulse the blender a few time to mix them in.
  3. Pour into a jar and refrigerate.

So easy, there’s no reason not to make your own dressing!

Variations:

  • Substitute the dry herbs with fresh herbs
  • Make a chipotle ranch dressing by adding in a bit of chipotle chili pepper. Be aware that a little chipotle pepper goes a long way, so add just a little at a time.
  • Want a BBQ ranch dressing? Mix in a little of your favorite BBQ sauce.
  • Stir in some of your favorite salsa to make a salsa ranch dressing.

Why you’ll love this dressing:

  • It’s super easy to make
  • With less than 17 calories per tablespoon, you can eat this without the guilt of high calorie dressings.
  • It tastes amazing!
  • It’s less expensive than store bought ranch dressings.

In addition to being a fabulous salad dressing, it is also good for dipping vegetables or for spreading on sandwiches. How about dipping your fries in it? Or vegan chicken strips? It’s so good, you’ll want to dip everything in it!

Try it and see for yourself that you don’t need a high fat dressing to enjoy the taste of ranch dressing!
